Jayden sat on his bed creating rose after rose for his Valentine. She deserved an amazing gift. She knew of his abilities, yet she cared less. No one ever did that for him, and for that he was grateful.
Derek, Jayden's brother, stood in the doorway watching as the Jayden created the fresh roses from paper. His anger began to rise. No brother of his was going to be a mutant. He hrew the door open, causing the knob to make a hole in the wall. Jayden jumped from the bed and tried to cover up the flowers.
"What the f*ck ar you doing?" Derek yelled.
"Nothing. I wasn't doing anything." He said, trying to sound convincing.
Derek trudged closer to Jayden, his fists balled at his side. "I saw you! You're a freak like everyone else!" he screamed. He swung at Jayden, but missed. Jayden backed up against the wall. His body shook with fear.
"No, you have it all wrong. I'm--" His head snapped to the left as Derek's fist connected to with his jaw. Jayden tried to speak again, but punches flew at him, hiting him each time. He fell to his knees and curled up into a ball. Derek took the gesture as an invitation for his foot to meet Jayden's rib cage. Jayden cried and begged him to stop; it hurt so bad.
Derek stopped for a moment and began to yell and curse at his 'freak' brother. Jayden took the short break to draw a quick picture. He drew the local gang leader and brought him to life. C-Love, the leader, stood in front of Jayden, blocking Derek from him.
"What the hell is this?" Derek questioned. He tried to get around the thug, but C-Love pulled out a Glok. Derek laughed, not believing that a drawing could kill him. He tried once more to get past C-Love, but it was his last try. C-Love thingyed the gun and shot Derek three times in the chest. Jayden was huddled in a corner, hands over his ears, staring at Derek as he stumbled backward then fell to the floor. A pool of blood seeped from his body as he lay dead. Jayden put C-Love back onto his paper. He crawled to his brothers side.
"I'm sorry." He cried. "I'm so sorry."
Jayden writhed in his bed. Sweat covered his body as he tried to get the nightmare to stop. He screamed and sat up. He held his ears, presing his hands as tight as he could to his ears. The gun shots echoed through his head; they were too loud. Jayden shut his eyes tight as if he were going to let a laser beam loose if he opened them. "Stop it!" he yelled. It usually worked. Saying thos words usually worked, but tonight it failed.
Penny was sitting at the end of his bed watching him and whimpering. She jumped from the bed and ran into the hallway toward Grace's room. She scratched at the door, crying and begging to be let in.
