Demeter sighed deeply as she rolled over to face her bed room window. She peered up at the silver moon light creeping over her body as she balled up in the sheets.
She slowly sat up, something, or someone, seemed to be beckoning her. She couldn't shake the feeling now matter how hard she tried. She rose rose from her bed, gasping at the sudden feel of the chilling floor against her bare feet. She wrapped her robe around her, concealing her wings under the silky white cloth.
She opened her bed room door, peeking each way down the hall. When she felt safe there was no one up she stepped into the hall and closed the door.
It didn't take long to get outside and into the garden. She pulled the robe closer as she felt the stinging cold of the dew on the grass. She looked up at the soft clouds that hazed over the moon and then back to the midnight sky. She sighed softly, knowing she had to be crazy to just randomly come out here on one of the coldest nights of the year without a true reason, or at least socks.
She froze when she felt something breeze by her. She jerked back and looked around her. There it was again.... a black shadow darting around the trees and rose bushes of the garden.
"Hello?" she called softly. It seemed no matter what happened in horror movies, people always gave away their position by making the mistake to call out something stupid. She moved forward, holding her robe to her chest as she did.
She didn't even see it coming. She didn't see the shadow lash out and knock her to the ground. Didn't see or even feel her head hit the tree, or the line pattern of blood streaking down it as she slid to the ground. She didn't notice one of her feathers slip to the ground, left unattended. And if this wasn't enough she didn't notice the shadow picking her up and carrying her away into the night.
Demeter let her eyes flutter open, hissing at the deep pain in her head as she lifted her neck. She pulled at her arm, but when it didn't budge she looked, slowly, at the wide metal cuff that bolted her hand to the wall.
She gasped loudly and jerked her other arm only to find it in the same place. She tried to kick her legs, testing each binding piece of steel for a weakness. As a last effort she flicked her wings, only to cry out in pain when the hooks dug deeper into her flesh. She was plastered to the wall as if placed on a crucifix for display.
"You're awake?" A voice charmed from what seemed an ageless distance.
Demeter held her breath, trying to keep her silence, but with no success.
"Come now, Demeter. I know you remember me." The voice boomed as a light over head flickered on.
Demeter hissed at the brightness as she blinked to try and get a glimpse of the man talking to her. She now wished the lights were back off and that she was once back into the darkness of her mind.
"What? Don't tell me you forgot me, Demeter. Not after we've been through so much together." The man laughed.
"Let me go, John." she said in a deep plea for her life.
"You just got here, my dear. Why would I let you go?" He questioned as he walked over to her. He was holding his hand behind his back, hiding something from her view. "We need to catch up."
"John, please... please don't do this." She begged, already knowing he was going to kill her if he had the slightest chance, and from the look of this, opportunity wasn't far off.
"You know, I've waited years for this." He said as he flicked the needle from behind his back. He looked up at her, smiling a bit.
"John...." She tried to curl her legs away from him, trying to break free of this gadget he had her trapped in. For years she was able to keep away from him and now he had her... and he wasn't going to let her go.
"Nick would be proud of me, I think." He kept the same sadistic smile on his face, one that could turn anyone's blood to stone. "I'm finally killing his killer."
"John, I didn't kill him!" She cried out as he took a step closer. "You did! You and you're stupid lies!" She shut her mouth quickly when he lashed out, striking her across the face.
"I saved him from you, until you broke out and he had to find you." He flicked the needle again and smiled at her. "Do you remember that one night... back at the camp that I came to visit you?" He taunted.
Demeter snapped her eyes shut. She remember alright. She remembered every night he had shown up and forced her to... She opened her eyes and screamed at him in furry, her fear now gone into madness.
John laughed eagerly. "You do. Well.... why don't we have a reenactment for old times sake?" He questioned as he placed his hands on her sides.
Demeter spit at him, hitting her mark. She gave a devilish laugh until he pulled his hand back, smashing his hand into the side of her face again.
"I'll just have my fun after I kill you." He barked as he lifted the needle above his head, getting ready to strike it into her flesh...
